Investment objective

The Investec Money Market Fund aims to earn a higher level of income than fixed deposits and call deposits over time, while aiming to protect capital and provide investors with immediate liquidity. The fund is suitable for corporate investors requiring an easily accessible money market proposition with a balanced focus on the out-performance of 3 month deposit rates, counterparty diversfication and capital preservation.

Strategy

The fund has a conservative maturity profile investing in money market  instruments of less than 12 months and a maximum weighted average maturity of 90 days. Investments are only made in highly rated (‘F1(zaf)’/’F1+(zaf)’ or equivalent) short term securities such as negotiable certificates of deposits (NCDs), promissory notes and fixed deposits issued predominantly by South African Banks. Further investments are allowed in foreign banking institutions authorised to conduct business in South Africa that have sound credit ratings, government issued paper, parastatal paper, conduits and corporates. The fund does not invest in derivatives or foreign exchange exposures.
