Improving young lives: Songo
We signed a three-year partnership with sports and education charity songo.info in January 2015. The partnership allows songo.info to bring their life-changing development programme to more children in the township of Kayamandi, outside Stellenbosch in the Western Cape.
Building for the future: JL Zwane
Back in 2003, Investec Asset Management, along with other corporate sponsors, provided the means to build what is today a modern facility serving the needs of an entire community. We continue to remain committed to its success. Staff members were instrumental in raising funds to contribute to the development of a fully-resourced library. While at group level, Investec Asset Management partnered with Living Maths in 2006 to provide extra maths lessons to more than 140 learners every year.
Giving more than money
There’s only so much you can do from a desk. To make a real difference in a community you need to be present. Our employees volunteer on an ongoing basis across several charitable projects in the communities in which we operate. These include Arrival Education and Starfish, as well as several local charities and NGOs that focus on poverty relief and education at grassroots level. It’s about giving back, and making it personal.
Virunga national park
A powerful combination of investigative journalism and nature documentary, Virunga is the story of Virunga National Park, Africa’s oldest national park and home to the planet’s last remaining mountain gorillas.
Investec Asset Management sponsored the London and South African premieres, and a number of screenings globally, helping to raise awareness of the film’s incredible true story of the people risking their lives to protect the park from illegal oil exploration and Congo’s armed militia. www.virunga.org
Hendrik du Toit, our CEO, believes that, “We live in unprecedented times. Over the last 40 years the world’s wildlife population has decreased by more than half and some of the planet’s most iconic species, many of which count the continent of Africa as their home, are on the brink of extinction.” He is convinced that we need to act now if we are going to reverse the trend. In this spirit Investec Asset Management teamed up with Tusk, which has been working since 1990 to build a sustainable future for the people and the wildlife of the African continent.
The fourth annual Tusk Conservation Awards in November 2016, which is a partnership with Investec Asset Management, celebrated the ground-breaking work of Africa’s unsung conservation heroes and aimed to raise global awareness around both the immediate and long-term challenges facing our natural world.
