Andrew has nearly 30 years’ industry experience across major wealth markets, and is a Sloan Fellow of London Business School. He has worked in asset management, platforms, pensions and advice, in roles spanning strategy, marketing, executive and consultant.
Andrew is an active contributor to thought leadership as editor of NMG’s new industry blog Citylogue. For the first part of his career, Andrew worked in the Australian industry, including Head of Workplace Pensions at Commonwealth Bank, and Director of Products at Rothschild. After gaining a Masters at London Business School in 2003, he founded Tria Partners, a consulting start-up focused on wealth industry strategy and products. Tria grew to become a leading boutique and was acquired by NMG Consulting in 2013. Andrew subsequently returned to industry to gain exposure to major DC pension funds, principally as Head of Strategy, Proposition & Product at AustralianSuper in Melbourne. He resumed his consulting career with NMG in 2017 as Head of UK & EMEA in London.
Portfolio Manager, Veritas Asset Management (representing Nedgroup Investments)
Andrew is a Partner, Portfolio Manager, and Head of Global at Veritas Asset Management LLP. He was previously the Head of Research and Global and was also a Director of the firm. He was an Analyst and Portfolio Manager at WP Stewart from 2001 to 2003.
Prior to that, Andrew was an Analyst and Portfolio Manager at Newton Investment Management from 1996 to 2001. Before that, he was a Tax Consultant at Price Waterhouse from 1993 to 1996. Andrew is a Chartered Accountant. He received a BSc Degree and an ASIP Program.
Head of Collectives, Investec Wealth & Investments UK
Andrew is responsible for the team that covers collectives research, incorporating the firm’s UK and international businesses, as well as involved in asset allocation and portfolio management for several Investec Wealth & Investment’s business units.
After graduating from Oxford University, he spent nine years at Goldman Sachs, latterly in the firm’s offshore fund product development team. He then joined Investec in 2006 as a product specialist before becoming Head of Fund Research in 2007. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and has a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.

Anthony’s executive career was mainly spent in the advertising and marketing where he built his own agency, was a divisional CEO of Omnicom and later Deputy Chairman for Omnicom Europe.
His current directorships are FPE Capital and HeyHuman (private equity), CountryLine (music), Hall & Partners (market research), Portas Consulting (advice to sports federations and corporates) and the US board of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His main advisory client is Aberdeen Standard Investments. In sport, he is the current President of MCC, having started his one year term on October 1st. He is also an advisor for the European Tour (golf).
Head of Global Sector, Orbis Investments
Ben joined Orbis in 2000 and is based in London. He leads the global sector investment team and is one of the stockpickers who directs client capital in the Orbis Global Equity Strategy.
He previously worked at Barclays Private Investors, and has Master of Arts (Honours) in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Oxford. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Portfolio Manager, BlackRock
Daniel Whitestone, is a Portfolio Manager on the UK Equity team within the Fundamental Equity Division of BlackRock's Active Equity business. He is the lead Portfolio Manager for the BlackRock UK Emerging Companies Hedge Fund, UK Emerging Companies Absolute Return Fund and BlackRock's Throgmorton Investment Trust.
He is also responsible for researching the technology sector for the wider UK equity team. Daniel’s service with the firm dates back to 2013. Prior to joining BlackRock, he worked for UBS, where he was the head of the UK small and mid-cap sales desk and ranked the number one salesperson in the Extel Small/Mid-Cap sales ratings in 2011 and 2012. He began his career at Accenture in 2003 as a strategy consultant, then moved to Noble and Co in 2006 as a UK small and mid-cap salesman. He has a BA Hons degree in Combined Studies from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.
Managing Director, UK Client Group, Investec Asset Management
David is managing director of the UK Client Group at Investec Asset Management, responsible for retail and institutional business in the UK and Ireland. David initially joined Investec Asset Management as sales director for UK & Europe in 2000.
Prior to Investec Asset Management, David worked at Gartmore Asset Management with responsibility for capital raising for their hedge fund business. Previously, David was head of institutional pooled sales in the UK and offshore areas for Fleming Investment Management.
David started his career as a Chartered Accountant after graduating from Nottingham City University with a degree in Accounting and Finance.
Managing Director, Investec Investment Management Services
David was appointed managing director of Investec Investment Management Services in October 2009. Prior to this David was the head of operations at Investec Asset Management with responsibility for operations, vendor management, IT and risk. Before assuming this role in January 2004, David served as the head of product in the Personal Investments area.
Prior to Investec David worked at Fedsure Unit Trusts from 1999, finishing as the managing director. From 1995 to 1998 he was at Norwich Unit Trusts, initially as the financial manager and finally assistant general manager of operations. Before joining Norwich, David was at Liberty Life from 1993 as audit manager. He completed his articles at Ernst & Young in 1992.
David is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting from the University of Cape Town as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting.
Portfolio Manager, Investec Asset Management
Deirdre is co-portfolio manager for the Global Environment Strategy in the Natural Resources team at Investec Asset Management. She joined the team in 2018, and is a utility, infrastructure and energy transition specialist.
Prior to this, she was a Partner, Portfolio Manager and Head of Research at Ecofin. Before joining Ecofin, Deirdre was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley where she headed their European Renewable Energy coverage effort and built an investment banking and principal investing franchise.
She has long had a passion for sustainable investing and has worked on a voluntary basis in the microfinance sector both in the US and in Pakistan. She is a member of the advisory board of Girls Who Invest, a non-profit organisation whose mission is to increase the percentage of the world’s investable capital run by women. She is also a member of the advisory board of the Shell Foundation’s Energy Company of the Future project, as well as the advisory board for Imperial College’s Centre for Climate Finance and Investment.
Deirdre earned her MBA from Harvard Business School, where she was a Baker Scholar, and her BA from University College Dublin.
Country Head – South Africa, Schroders
Doug Abbott is Country Head – South Africa and is responsible for our business in South Africa. Doug is a key individual of our financial services licence in South Africa and leads the team in the country. Doug joined Schroders in 2008 and has been located in South Africa since December 2015.
He has worked with South African institutional and retail investors since 2013. Prior to moving to South Africa, Doug was responsible for relationships with discretionary asset managers in the UK as well as sales and marketing for our close-ended funds business in the UK. He joined Schroders in 2008 as a member of the graduate scheme. Doug has a BA Hons in Modern History from Oxford University, a MSc African Studies from Oxford University and holds the Investment Management Certificate.
Senior Strategy Consultant, NMG Consulting
Evan has worked with asset managers, platforms and insurers across Australia, the UK and South African wealth management markets. Most of his work revolves around distribution strategy, especially in the independent advice market.
After completing his studies in Actuarial Studies and Mathematics at the University of New South Wales in Australia, he worked briefly in the Australian investment market before moving to the UK. Since 2017 has been running NMG Consulting’s South African studies while remaining heavily involved in the UK business.
Joint Chief Executive Officer of Investec Group
Hendrik du Toit is Joint Chief Executive Officer of Investec Group. Hendrik entered the asset management industry in 1988 and joined the Investec Group in 1991 as founding member of Investec Asset Management. Investec manages in excess of US$ 200 billion on behalf of its clients.
Hendrik has served on the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, a United Nations based initiative since 2014. In 2016 he became a Commissioner of the Business and Sustainable Development Commission. In 2016 he was appointed as a non-executive director of Naspers Limited, a cornerstone investor in Tencent Holdings. In May 2018, Hendrik also became a member of HM Treasury’s Belt and Road Initiative Expert Board.
Hendrik holds an MPhil in Economics and Politics of Development from Cambridge University, as well as an MCom in Economics from Stellenbosch University.
Portfolio Manager, Investec Asset Management
Iain is a portfolio manager in the Multi-Asset team at Investec Asset Management. He is the co-portfolio manager of the Investec Global Multi-Asset Total Return, Investec Global Strategic Managed and the Investec Multi-Asset Protector strategies.
He is also a member of the team’s Macro Research Group, where he focuses on the analysis of structural macro themes, as well as the FX and Rates Research Group.
Prior to joining the firm in 2016, Iain started his career at Schroders where he was responsible for the management of a number of multi-asset funds and mandates focused on dynamic asset allocation and income.
He has a BSc in Economics from Loughborough University, and an MSc in Economics and Finance (with distinction). Iain is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.
Co-Chief Investment Officer, NS Partners, Manager of the Nedgroup Investments Global Emerging Markets Equity Fund
Ian has been managing money in East Asia and the broader emerging markets for over 26 years. Passionate about emerging market equities, Ian is an enthusiastic advocate of the subjects that define the team’s investment process: true economic profitability of companies driving shareholder returns, liquidity impacts on asset prices, behavioural finance in capital markets, and how these factors interact.
Ian began his career at Royal Insurance Asset Management as a fund manager on the Far East team where he soon became responsible for a variety of Far East client portfolios. He joined what is now NS Partners in 1996. He assumed responsibility for all Asian equity investments shortly thereafter, and took on emerging markets in 1998.
Former South African cricketer
Jacques is regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the game. He was the only cricketer to have scored more than 11000 runs and take 250 wickets in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and test cricket.
He made his debut for Western Province cricket in 1993/1994 and was named leading cricketer in the world in the 2008 Wisden for his performances in 2007, in addition to ICC test player of the year and ICC player of the year in 2005. Kallis is one of only four players in the history of test cricket to make a century in five consecutive matches (in 2003/2004) and the fourth player after Bradman, Ken Barrington and Matthew Hayden to score four centuries in four tests on two different occasions. In his 166th and final test appearance at Kingsmead in December 2013, Kallis scored his 45th century. He ended his cricket career with a total of 13 289 runs at an average of 55.37 and captured 292 wickets.

In 2019, James will take up a new role as Chief Executive of the new Wealth Joint Venture between Lloyds and Schroders. Currently, James was Co-Head of UK Intermediary Business at Schroders, Chief Executive of Schroder Unit Trusts and a non-executive Director of Benchmark Capital.
James joined Schroders in 2007 and was initially Head of UK Marketing, covering both Institutional and Intermediary clients and then Head of UK Strategic Accounts, responsible for relationships with Schroders largest distribution partners in the UK. James joined the investment industry in 1996 and worked at John Govett & Co until 2001 and Barings until 2007.
Head of EMEA Client Portfolio Management, Goldman Sachs Asset Management
Javier is head of EMEA Client Portfolio Management in the Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) group within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. He focuses on product development, communications and strategy for the QIS platform in the institutional, private wealth and third-party channels.
Javier joined Goldman Sachs in 2010 and was named managing director in 2013. Prior to joining the firm, Javier was a senior strategist and head of UK and Europe Strategic Accounts and Client Solutions at Barclays Global Investors (BGI). While at BGI, he had a lead role in the strategic design, marketing and development of the multi-strategy hedge funds and global multi-asset products in Europe, Latin America and Asia Ex-Japan. Javier earned a BA in Financial Management and Accounting from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, and an MSc in International Securities, Investments and Banking from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.

Jeremy is a regular voice in the media, at conferences and to the investment-related world at large, responsible for commenting on current affairs, economics and investment markets.

With the company since 1992, Jeremy has been with the firm for 25 years, during which the business grew from a small Cape Town Asset Management firm to a significant global business managing clients assets in excess of R1.6 trillion*.
Jeremy also served on the board of Western Province/Stormers rugby from 2003 to 2005, a period in which their performance was particularly poor!

Prior to joining the firm she worked at Allianz Global Investors, Hong Kong as senior research analyst, covering regional consumer and healthcare sectors. She started her career with Allianz in San Francisco, where she held various roles in Grassroots Research and marketing.
Joanna has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley with a major in Architecture and a minor in Business Administration.
Head of Multi-Asset Income, Investec Asset Management
John is Head of Multi-Asset Income at Investec Asset Management, responsible for all multi-strategy income. He is lead portfolio manager on our multi-strategy income portfolios, as well as participating in the wider management of our multi-asset strategies.
During his time at the firm John has held senior positions as Co-Head of Fixed Income & Currency, having previously been responsible for the management of our South African fixed income assets from 1998 to 2004.
John joined Guinness Flight in 1993, which was later acquired by Investec Asset Management, and took responsibility for investments in emerging bond and currency markets. Previous to this, he worked in London and Tokyo as a specialist global bond and currency portfolio manager for Mitsui Trust Asset Management.
John graduated from the University of Oxford with an honours degree in Chemistry in 1990 and he is a CFA Charterholder.

Matthew Dobbs is Head of Global Small Companies/Specialist Asia at Schroders, which involves running a range of specialist equity portfolios and funds. He joined Schroders in 1981 and is based in London.
Sports Journalists and Businessman
Matthew was born, raised and educated in Cape Town. After school, he studied at the University of Cape Town towards a degree in Industrial Psychology and a post-graduate diploma in Marketing.
During his time at university, he was asked by a friend to help him to do some freelance reporting for the local newspapers on rugby, cricket and golf and he eventually became the official golf writer for the Cape Times newspaper whilst he was still in university. Through his association with the Cape Times, Matthew picked up some occasional freelance radio reporting slots and so, a passion for sports media – and broadcasting, in particular – was born. After completing his studies, he was offered the editorship of Golf Digest magazine and, at the age of twenty-six, went on to become the youngest editor of SA Sports Illustrated. He held this position for over five years. Matthew has held various business positions whilst continuing with his freelance broadcasting. In 2005, he was given the opportunity to commentate on a rugby match for SuperSport. Since then, commentated on 60 test matches and anchored the SuperSport coverage at the Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand. Matthew is set to be commentating on 2019 Rugby World Cup. He is a three-time SAB Sports Media Award winner, including the 2014 award for ‘TV Sports Commentator of the Year’. He is also a three-time winner of the SASOL Award for Rugby Broadcasting.
Head of International Retail Client Business, Goldman Sachs Asset Management
Nick is head of the International Retail Client Business for Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) with responsibility for EMEA, Asia Pacific ex-Japan and offshore Latin America. He manages the distribution of mutual funds, separately managed accounts and sub-advisory services through third party intermediaries such as banks, insurance companies and independent financial advisors.
Before assuming his current role in 2013, Nick was co-head of European Distribution for GSAM. He has also been the Head of Third Party Distribution in EMEA since 2008. Nick joined Goldman Sachs in 2000, was named managing director in 2005 and partner in 2014. Prior to joining the firm, Nick was a regional sales manager with Credit Suisse Asset Management for five years. Before joining Credit Suisse, he worked at Morgan Grenfell Asset Management for two years and at the Clerical Medical Investment Group for seven years.
Co-Head of Multi-Asset Growth, Investec Asset Management
Philip is Co-Head of Multi-Asset Growth at Investec Asset Management, he is also a portfolio manager for Multi-Asset total return, global multi-asset and protected strategies.
He began his investment career in 1982 as an analyst at Guinness Mahon & Co Limited, assuming management responsibility for the company’s managed currency funds in 1984. In 1987, he became a founding director of Guinness Flight Global Asset Management, which was later acquired by Investec Asset Management in 1998, and led its successful Global Fixed Income team. In 2000 he joined the Multi-Asset team, becoming Head in 2004.
Philip graduated from Cambridge University with a MA in History in 1980.
Co-Head of 4Factor, Investec Asset Management
Rhynhardt is the Co-Head of 4Factor and co-portfolio manager for the Global Core Equity Strategy at Investec Asset Management. He began his career at the firm in 2004 and was previously the Co-Head of SA Equity & Multi-Asset.
Over the years he has been responsible for the fundamental analysis of a broad range of listed companies, the portfolio management of a number of equity and multi-asset strategies as well as driving the equity research agenda within these strategies. Rhynhardt rejoined the firm in 2010 from Oryx Investment Management where he worked for two years as a research analyst and portfolio manager.
He graduated from the University of Pretoria with a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Management Sciences and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) in Investment Management (cum laude), before completing a Master’s degree in Financial Management (cum laude) at the University of Cape Town. Rhynhardt is also a CFA Charterholder.
Managing Director, Global Advisor, Investec Asset Management
Richard is based in New York and joined Investec Asset Management in 2006. He is a Managing Director and oversees Investec Asset Management’s Global Advisor business. He is also head of Global Financial Institutions Group and is currently responsible for our business in South America and our North American and European Advisor businesses.
Richard originally joined Investec Asset Management to head up the Americas business and subsequently ran our business in Europe and then became responsible for our institutional and advisor business in North and South America.
Prior to this Richard was CEO of Janus International and was responsible for their business outside the US. He was also senior vice president at J&W Seligman in New York. Before moving to the US in 1994 Richard was based in London and worked for Henderson Global Investors, Morgan Grenfell Investment Management and Hambros Investment Management.
He graduated from the University of Leeds in 1984 with a joint honours degree in English and German.
Managing Director, Square Mile
Richard is responsible for determining the strategy and focus for the business in conjunction with the Board and the Executive Management Team. Richard works closely with our clients and all members of the team as well as forging strong business relationships within the wider industry.
Prior to founding Square Mile he was Research Director and co-founder of Old Broad Street Research Limited (OBSR). Following the acquisition of OBSR by Morningstar he became joint Managing Director of Morningstar OBSR, then MD of European Investment Consulting at Morningstar Inc. He has more than 25 years industry experience, starting at BMA Services in 1986 before becoming an analyst at Buck Consultants.
Deputy Managing Director, Investec Asset Management
Sangeeth is the deputy managing director of the Africa Client Group and has been with Investec Asset Management since 2000. He is responsible for the strategic direction of the business and several of our key client relationships.
Prior to this role, Sangeeth was the Global Head of Product Development and worked collaboratively with the investment and business development teams in order to develop and enhance the various investment capabilities offered to advisor and institutional investors.
Sangeeth is an actuary by profession and an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s leadership development programme.
MA Cantab, DPhil Oxon, Clore Professor of Gerontology
Sarah is Clore Professor of Gerontology at the University of Oxford, a Fellow at University College, and the Founding Director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing.
Sarah has a background in anthropology and population studies and her early research focused on migration and the social implications of demographic change. Her current research on demographic change addresses the impact of falling fertility and increasing life expectancy, with an interest in Asia and Africa. Sarah has just completed a monograph How Population Change will Transform our World Oxford University Press (2016), and is working on her next book for Cambridge University Press on Population, Technology and Environmental Change. Alongside keynotes at academic conferences, Sarah has spoken at World Economic Forums in China and Australia, presented various TED and TED linked talks and presented her work at two Nobel Prize Dialogues, in Stockholm in 2014 and Seoul in 2017.
Co-Head of Quality, Investec Asset Management
Simon is Co-Head of Quality at Investec Asset Management. He is a portfolio manager with a focus on UK equities, and manager of the Investec UK Alpha Fund and the Luxembourg domiciled Investec GSF UK Alpha Fund. He is also responsible for the co-management of the specialist Quality investment team. Simon is based in the firm’s London office.
Prior to joining the firm, Simon worked for Threadneedle where he was Head of UK Equities and responsible for the portfolio management of the Threadneedle UK Fund. He has been managing funds for over 14 years, having started his career with Schroders in 1998.
Simon graduated from Durham University and the University of Aix-Marseille with a BA Honours degree in Economics with French. Simon holds the Institute of Investment Management and Research (IIMR) certificate.
Head of Retail Distribution and Orbis, Allan Gray
Tamryn is head of retail distribution and Orbis, Allan Gray. She joined Orbis in London in 2006 as an investment analyst, moving on to the Orbis Investment Counsellor Group in 2010. She relocated to Cape Town in 2012 and joined Allan Gray’s institutional client servicing team.
In 2015 she took over responsibility for Orbis client servicing in South Africa and for jointly heading up the institutional client servicing team. In 2018, she assumed various responsibilities within retail distribution. Tamryn completed her BBusSc degree at UCT, is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) and Chartered Financial Analyst. She previously worked as an equity analyst for Bear Stearns in London, having completed her accounting articles at KPMG in Cape Town.
Head of Natural Resources, Investec Asset Management
Tom is Head of Natural Resources at Investec Asset Management. He is co-portfolio manager of the Energy and Natural Resources strategies, which invest directly in equities in these sectors. Tom is part of the Sustainability leadership team and was instrumental in the launch of the Global Environment strategy.
Tom joined Investec Asset Management in 2012 and before that spent seven years at Guinness Asset Management where he was part of the team that managed the outsourced Investec Global Energy Fund from 2005 to 2008 and was subsequently co-portfolio manager of the Guinness Global Energy Fund from 2008 onwards.
Tom holds the UKSIP Level III Certificate in Investment Management and an MA in Modern Languages (French and German) from the University of Oxford.
Marketing Manager, Media & PR, Investec Asset Management
Vian Sharif is part of Investec Asset Management’s global communications team in London and is responsible for all cross-border media relations ex Africa. She joined Investec Asset Management in 2007.
Prior to joining Investec Asset Management, Vian specialised in communications for the luxury goods sector, most recently holding a directorship at boutique luxury communications agency Luchford APM where she assisted in the repositioning of the Pringle of Scotland brand. Prior to this Vian was an account manager at London agency Aurelia PR, where she managed flagship accounts such as Versace & Salvatore Ferragamo whilst working on special projects for brands such as Krug and Moet & Chandon.
She began her career at NM Rothschild before moving to the press office at Gucci and Gucci Group’s global communications office in London.
Vian graduated from Cambridge University in 2000 with a BA in English and History of Art.
Head of EMEA Investment Strategy, BlackRock
Wei Li, CFA, is head of EMEA investment strategy for BlackRock ETF and Index Investments. Her team's responsibilities include delivering ETF investment ideas and market insights to institutional clients and financial advisors. Wei’s service with the firm dates back to August 2010.
She is a frequent contributor to financial news media and appears regularly on Bloomberg TV and CNBC. Prior to joining BlackRock, she was an equity derivatives trader at Citigroup London responsible for the trading book covering ETFs and European sectors and in rates sales trading at Lehman Brothers London. She is a two-time Mathematical Olympiad gold medallist from China, holds a MA (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge.
