    David Aird

    Managing Director, UK Client Group
    Joined the firm in 2000
    Joined the industry in 1988

    David is managing director of the UK Client Group at Investec Asset Management, responsible for retail and institutional business in the UK and Ireland. David initially joined Investec Asset Management as sales director for UK & Europe in 2000.

    Prior to Investec Asset Management, David worked at Gartmore Asset Management with responsibility for capital raising for their hedge fund business. Previously, David was head of institutional pooled sales in the UK and offshore areas for Fleming Investment Management.

    David started his career as a Chartered Accountant after graduating from Nottingham City University with a degree in Accounting and Finance.

    Hendrik du Toit

    Chief Executive Officer

    Hendrik du Toit is Chief Executive Officer at Investec Asset Management and an executive director of Investec plc and Investec Limited. Hendrik joined the Investec Group in 1991 as founding member of Investec Asset Management. Under his stewardship, Investec Asset Management grew from a small South African start-up to an international specialist asset management firm entrusted with over £92 billion* of client assets.

    Hendrik has served on the Leadership Council of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, a global initiative for the United Nations since 2014. In 2016 he became a Commissioner on the Business and Sustainable Development Commission. In 2016 he was appointed as a non-executive director of Naspers Limited.

    Hendrik holds a MPhil in Economics and Politics of Development from Cambridge University, as well as a MCom in Economics and International Finance (Cum Laude), BCom in Economics honours degree (Cum Laude) and a BCom (Law) from Stellenbosch University.

     

    Michael power

    Strategist
    Joined the firm in 2002

    Michael joined Investec Asset Management as a strategist in December 2002. His current responsibilities include understanding how the shift in the centre of economic gravity from West to East is impacting on the world of investment and in particular how it is opening up new investment opportunities for Investec’s global client base.

    He began his career working in the Middle East department of Chase Manhattan Bank before joining Anglo American's corporate finance department in South Africa. Michael then worked in the London corporate finance department of NM Rothschild & Sons where his work had a strong natural resource emphasis. Having completed a 4x4 overland safari through Africa, Michael then worked for HSBC-Equator Bank in Kenya for four years. He returned to the UK to work at Baring Asset Management as a director in their emerging markets department, where he was head of Africa and the Middle East as well as heading the natural resources sector, and was also portfolio manager for the Pan African Simba Fund.

    Michael graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Phd in Economics. He also holds an MA in International Business and Law from the Fletcher School at Tufts and a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Oxford.

    John Stopford

    Head of Multi-Asset Income

    John is head of Multi-Asset Income at Investec Asset Management, responsible for all multi-strategy income. He is lead portfolio manager on our multi-strategy income portfolios, as well as participating in the wider management of our multi-asset strategies. During his time at the firm John has held senior positions as co-head of Fixed Income & Currency, having previously been responsible for the management of our South African fixed income assets from 1998 to 2004. John joined Guinness Flight in 1993, which was later acquired by Investec Asset Management, and took responsibility for investments in emerging bond and currency markets. Previous to this, he worked in London and Tokyo as a specialist global bond and currency portfolio manager for Mitsui Trust Asset Management.

    John graduated from the University of Oxford with an honours degree in Chemistry in 1990 and he is a CFA Charterholder.

    Jeff Boswell

    Strategy Leader: Developed Market Credit

    Jeff is responsible for managing and leading the development of the developed markets credit platform at Investec Asset Management. His responsibilities include acting as a portfolio manager across a range of Investec Asset Management credit funds.

    Prior to joining the firm Jeff worked at Intermediate Capital Group PLC as Head of Portfolio Management within its Credit Fund Management division. He was also a member of the investment committee across both liquid and illiquid Credit Fund Management strategies. Prior to this he was at Investec Bank Limited as Head of Acquisition Finance, where he established the Acquisition Finance platform and led the development a third party asset management CLO platform alongside. Previously he has also held structured and leveraged finance roles at NIB Capital (London) and BOE Merchant Bank (South Africa).

    Jeff holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours (Cum Laude) from University of South Africa. He is also a Chartered Accountant (SA) and a CFA Charterholder.

    Blake Hutchins

    Portfolio Manager
    Joined the firm in 2014
    Joined the industry in 2007

    Blake is a portfolio manager at Investec Asset Management. He is manager of the UK Equity Income Fund, co-manager of the Global Quality Equity Income Fund, backup portfolio manager on the UK Alpha Fund and an analyst within the Quality team. Blake is based in the firm’s London office. Prior to joining the firm, Blake worked for Threadneedle where he was responsible for retail and institutional assets. He has been managing funds since 2011 having started his career with Aviva Investors in 2007.

    Blake graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a MA Honours degree in Economics and Politics. In addition, Blake holds the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and is a CFA Charterholder.

    Simon Brazier

    Co-Head of Quality
    Joined the firm in 2014
    Joined the industry in 1998

    Simon is Co-Head of Quality at Investec Asset Management. He is a portfolio manager with a focus on UK equities, and manager of the Investec UK Alpha Fund and the Luxembourg domiciled Investec GSF UK Alpha Fund. He is also responsible for the co-management of the specialist Quality investment team. Simon is based in the firm’s London office. Prior to joining the firm, Simon worked for Threadneedle where he was Head of UK Equities and responsible for the portfolio management of the Threadneedle UK Fund. He has been managing funds for over 14 years having started his career with Schroders in 1998.

    Simon graduated from Durham University and the University of Aix-Marseille with a BA Honours degree in Economics with French. Simon holds the Institute of Investment Management and Research (IIMR) certificate.

    Alastair Mundy

    Head of Value
    Joined the firm in 2000
    Joined the industry in 1998

    Alastair is head of the Value team at Investec Asset Management having joined in 2000 from Morley Fund Management.  He manages a number of funds including the Investec Cautious Managed Fund and the Investec UK Special Situations Fund. He also manages the Temple Bar Investment Trust.

    Alastair graduated from City University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Science in 1988.

    Richard Garland

    Managing Director
    Joined the firm in 2006
    Joined the industry in 1986

    Richard is based in New York and joined Investec Asset Management in 2006. He is a Managing Director and oversees Investec Asset Management’s Global Advisor business. He is also head of Global Financial Institutions Group and is responsible for our business in South America and our North American Advisor business.

    Richard originally joined the firm in 2006 as managing director to head the Americas region. He subsequently headed up our business in Europe and then became responsible for our institutional and advisor business in North and South America; and then finally oversaw our fund distribution business in Asia Pacific. Prior to this Richard was CEO of Janus International and was responsible for their business outside the US. He was also senior vice president at J&W Seligman in New York. Before moving to the US in 1994 Richard was based in London and was the international marketing director for Henderson Global Investors, and prior to this worked at Morgan Grenfell Investment Management and Hambros Investment Management.

    He graduated from the University of Leeds in 1984 with a joint honours degree in English and German.
