It's hard to believe that over a year has passed since our last London Global Insights Conference, but as ever, the time since has been eventful for both the global economy and global markets.
Donald Trump has remained at the forefront of geopolitical events, with his tweets filling the newswires on a regular basis. And if you hadn't already heard the words 'cryptocurrency' or 'Bitcoin' before, then you certainly had done by the end of 2017. Meanwhile in the UK, regulatory attention on the investment industry increased with the publication of the FCA's Asset Management Market Study, plus the introduction of MiFID II and PRIIPS early in 2018, all of this against the backdrop of the ongoing Brexit negotiations and attendant uncertainties.
Looking at investment markets, those ongoing Brexit uncertainties continue to weigh heavily on the future growth prospects for "UK Plc", whilst other global markets have taken their cue from US stocks, which since the start of 2018 have now twice fallen by over 10% from their January highs into "correction" territory. Investors have plenty to think about at present, including the continuing withdrawal of central bank stimulus, rising trade tensions between the US and China and concerns that economic growth may have peaked after the best period of synchronised global expansion for some time. With valuations looking full or expensive for some assets, the key questions now are whether markets can regain their upward momentum and how do we manage downside risks in this environment.
It is against this backdrop that we invite you to join Inve stec Asset Management once again at our Global Insights Conference in London on 21st June. Over the course of this event, our leading investment strategists and managers will share their views on a world going through dramatic political and economic change, as well as their investment insights relating to some of key funds.
We hope that you will attend Investec's 2018 Global Insights Conference and take full advantage of the opportunity to meet both your peers and Investec's investment experts.
